Building the Next Generation of Networking & Cybersecurity Professionals

NACDA was founded by a veteran IT professional and educator with decades of experience in networking, cybersecurity, and technology training. The mission behind NACDA is simple: give students the real skills needed to succeed in the technology industry through hands-on learning and mentorship.

The founder James Trower began his career in technology in 1997 as a LAN Specialist at Exide Technologies, where he worked on enterprise networking systems and gained valuable real-world experience in network infrastructure and troubleshooting.

Before entering the IT field, he proudly served in the United States Army, where he specialized in maintaining the electrical systems of the M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank. This experience developed the discipline, technical problem-solving skills, and attention to detail that continue to shape his teaching approach today.

After transitioning into the technology industry, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology with a specialization in Network Administration, further strengthening his expertise in enterprise networking systems.

Today, he serves as the Computer Networking & Cybersecurity Instructor at the Guthrie Center, Spring Branch ISD’s Career and Technology Center in Houston, Texas. In this role, he trains high school students in networking, cybersecurity, Linux systems, and ethical hacking while preparing them for industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+ and Security+.

Over the years, he has helped students develop the technical knowledge and confidence needed to pursue careers in information technology, cybersecurity, and network engineering.

Teaching Philosophy

At NACDA, instruction focuses on three core principles:

Learn by Doing

Students learn best through hands-on practice. Labs and practical exercises are central to the NACDA training experience.

Students:

• Building networks
• Configuring switches and routers
• Practicing real troubleshooting scenarios
• Securing Windows and Linux systems
• Understanding how cyber defenders protect modern networks

The goal is for every student to leave with hands-on experience, practical skills, and a portfolio of work that demonstrates their ability to solve real technology problems.

Understand the “Why”

Instead of memorizing commands or definitions, students are encouraged to understand how technology systems actually function.

Build Confidence

Technology can seem intimidating at first. NACDA programs are structured to help students gradually build confidence through guided practice and supportive instruction. (Repetition is a master skill)

Preparing Students for the Future of Technology

The technology industry continues to evolve rapidly, and NACDA is designed to prepare students for that future. In addition to core networking and cybersecurity skills, students are introduced to automation and AI-assisted workflows that modern IT and security teams use to improve efficiency and defense capabilities.

By combining foundational knowledge, practical labs, and modern technology tools, NACDA provides a training experience that helps students transition from curiosity to confidence.

A Commitment to Student Success

The founder of NACDA believes strongly in developing the next generation of technology professionals. Through mentorship, structured training, and hands-on lab experience, NACDA aims to empower students to pursue meaningful careers in networking, cybersecurity, and technology.

At NACDA, the mission is simple: build skilled professionals who can design, secure, and defend modern networks.
